7 Tracks of My Life in 7 Days Meme - Day 2

Middle school was rough, as it often is. My friends always seemed to disappear (they didn't stop being friends, but one was only in the area because of her father's temporary assignment, another went off to private high school in 9th grade for religious reasons, and so on), and things were getting rough at home, too. Although I would not realize it for several years yet, my mother's mental illness was becoming a factor.

Still, at home, I could mostly be my geeky self. I listened to a lot of Simon & Garfunkel at that point, and this song sums up my feelings about home (minus the romance subtheme, which didn't really exist for me yet):

In a more cheery mood, I also liked Seals & Crofts and was starting to get into Elton John.

This is also one of the songs that I categorize as "the life of musicians on the road," along with (much later) Bob Seger's "Turn the Page" and Jackson Brown's "The Load Out." I still like that kind of theme.

Today, my favorite S&G from this period is "Kathy's Song."

Music does speak volumes.

I believe Jackson Browne is one of my all time favorites. Lately it has been 'Shape of a Heart'. It is a sad song, but it resonates with me. When he draws out the 'ahhhh', I go right with him.

Simon and Garfunkel are another favorite.

Bob Seger takes me to my Army days and when I was married.

I hope all is well with you.

All of school is rough, isn't it? I dunno, some of are just meant to be home-schooled *puts hand up*. That is a very melancholy S&G track, nostalgia and homesickness bottled.

I adore Bob Seger's 'Hollywood Nights'. Big florid bad-taste epics with no reservations, nothing held back and the kitchen sink in there somewhere, I'm down with it.

Oh, Elton John *sigh*. Still hoping to see him live someday. What a sweetheart.

I think this was still a bit before my time.
I did see Elton John live once but that was in the 80s, of course.

My, Paul and Art were young when they were young: or maybe Richard Avedon just did that with everyone. The other photos from that year make them look infinitely pudgier and much less beautiful.

My on the road songs are Peter Paul and Mary's Leavin' on a Jet Plane and Kenny Rogers' But You Know I Love You.
