My Vacation Reading

New to Me:

Midnight Riot (a/k/a Rivers of London) and Moon over Soho by Ben Aaronovitch

Unseen Academicals by Terry Pratchett

The Cloud Roads by Marta Randall

Star Island by Carl Hiassen

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne Valente

Vols. 6-8 of the manga Natsume's Book of Friends

Comfort Reads:

Not sure. I'll probably just grab something out of the bedroom bookcase. Maybe Tove Jansson's The Summer Book and a Peter Dickinson mystery or a children's book. Also a couple of volumes of Saiyuki, for dialog reference for something I'm writing.

We're leaving early tomorrow. I still need to pack.

You are the first person I've met who takes even more books than I do when packing for a trip! Have a wonderful, relaxing time, and a fantastic birthday!! ♥♥♥

Well, I did actually pack 2 swimsuits, too! And deck of cards, and my new netbook, and my camera.

We tend to take very geeky vacations. My books will be read not only by me but also by my husband and our hosts. This type of trip ends up being a lot of hanging around reading, playing cards or word games, cooking out, wandering down the road to swim in the bay, scouring the flea market at the next town up the highway, and so on. A big road trip to one of the more scenic towns may occur, as might an expedition to the ocean-side beach, or a session paddling sea kayaks, or taking a charter boat to look for seals.

I can relate to geek vacations. On our honeymoon, we went to the Folger Shakespeare Library, and two Native American museums. The time we went through New England, it was mostly museum hopping, and we went to Plymoth, since Mr. hg works in a similar living history installation, he wanted to see it. So we do the geek thing pretty much ourselves, when we do get out, which ain't often these days.

Ooh, I love the look of your vacation reading list! Have a fantastic time. And pfft, packing early is for people who have nothing better to do. Leave it until the last minute! All the cool kids do!

Nice list, I've heard good things about "The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne Valente" and look forward to hearing/reading your opinions :)
Have a great trip.
