TV Spots and More for "The Eagle"

There's a YouTube feature page for "The Eagle" (the upcoming feature film based on Rosemary Sutcliff's "Eagle of the Ninth"), with TV spots as well as the official trailer. The spots don't seem to have embed codes, so I can't post one ... .

As smillaraaq and I have noted, there seem to be some changes (if we are to believe the trailer) in how Marcus and Esca's relationship develops. Also, there doesn't seem to be any indication that Cottia and Cub are in the film at all ... .

The movie opens February 11. The official site has been beefed up with tons of additional material since I last checked it. My dream would be for it to open at the Uptown in Washington - that's where we saw the original "Star Wars," all the Lord of the Rings movies, and "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." It's a grand old-style movie theater.

(Thanks, smillaraaq, for reminding me about this ... .)

I'm getting slightly more hopeful after seeing some of the cast-and-crew interviews -- and even if the plot does turn out to have been bastardized more than I'd have preferred, part of me nonetheless is hoping that this does well enough to encourage the publishers to bring more of Sutcliff's back catalogue into print. (And maybe even a DVD release of the '77 BBC miniseries, which by all accounts was very faithful to the book...)

...and now that we're just a week away from the premiere, it looks pretty unlikely that it's going to be playing the Uptown, alas -- they've got a big actioney FX-heavy 3D movie that just opened there today, and while I can't find their schedule past next Thursday yet, I really doubt they'll drop a new film after just a single week; even a total dog like TLA had longer bookings than that. (Which is a bummer, 'cause I love the Uptown too and haven't had a chance to go there with like-minded company in ages.)

(There is going to be a early-opening-day midnight showing at the multiplex one Metro stop away from me, but I know you turn into a pumpkin too early for such shenanigans. *grin*)
