Interview Meme!

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me!"

2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.

3. You will post the answers to the questions (and the questions themselves) on your blog or journal.

4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.

5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions. And thus the endless cycle of the meme goes on and on and on and on ... .

lady_ganesh asked ...

  1. What do you like most about writing?

Partially it's exercise for my imagination, but another huge part for me is the chance to connect with people. When someone says they like the story, it's a little connection, and it's golden.
  2. Why do you read what you read -- what do you find satisfying, as a reader?

I like to see characters grow, emotionally and mentally, and discover something that maybe they didn't know about themselves. I like stories with friendship or teamwork (or both). I like wry, droll humor, especially when it dispels tension. And I like being placed into a completely different setting from my own and having it described so vividly that I even "know" things that the author didn't mention, because he or she invented or evoked a setting that hung together so well (for example, in C.J. Cherryh's SF or P.C. Hodgell's fantasy, I can make pretty good guesses as to who handles the garbage, even when it's not mentioned).
  3. Finish this sentence: I could probably live for a week on _______.

Suuuuushi! Lovely sushi, so light and yet so satisfying. Clean, vivid, distinct flavors.
  4. Pie or cake?

Cake!!! I like some kinds of pie (pumpkin, blackberry), but I rarely eat the entire crust, and sometimes I only eat the filling. But cake is great - whether a plain slice of traditional Jewish honeycake, a piece of good-quality standard birthday cake with sugary frosting, or a sinful bitter chocolate torte.
  5. What was the last thing that made you really laugh?

Just this afternoon, at Katsucon, someone had organized a demented game of Twister in which instead of using the spinner, the fiend-in-charge roared out at random passersby: "You! Name a body part! And a color!" Knees, noses, cheeks (not on the face!) ... . It was a total riot. My enjoyment was definitely enhanced by the young woman nearby who kept murmuring "This is just so wrong!"

Feb. 15th, 2009 05:18 am (UTC)
So wrong... or so right?

Also, please interview me!
Feb. 16th, 2009 04:03 pm (UTC)

The fact that she kept watching would seem to indicate the latter ... .

1. What was your favorite book when you were 10, and why do you think it appealed to you?

2. What would be your ideal job?

3. Of the fic you have written, which (up to 3) are your favorites?

4. If you could talk to a fictitious character, who would it be, and what would be your first question to that person?

5. What's your favorite wild animal? Discuss, if you wish.

One of the young men playing was a cute/geeky south Asian guy with glasses and a good body .... mmm, I feel like a dirty old lady.

1. Who are your favorite male and female SDK characters (not necessarily as a couple) and why?

2. What's currently your favorite song, and which lyrics (up to 4 lines) especially speak to you?

3. Assuming that things go the way you want them to go, where (circumstances, location) do you see yourself in 5 years? In 10?

4. A Gertrude Stein poem contains the lines "I am Rose, and when I sing / I am Rose like anything." What activity makes you feel that you are "Hikari like anything"?

5. Choose one: ocean, lake, or river? Now tell me why.

mmm, I feel like a dirty old lady.

Hee, does it help to think of yourself as a noble rotten lady instead? ;)
Feb. 22nd, 2009 05:59 am (UTC)

LOL! It figures that they have a special word for it!

Feb. 24th, 2009 03:24 am (UTC)
And it's even funnier since that's also a pun on botrytis, the "noble rot" fungus that produces exquisite, costly dessert wines! Now that's the sort of self-mocking title I can get behind...I'd say "I'll drink to that", but given the prices of that stuff, only if someone else is funding my booze consumption... XD

o/ Interview me, please!
Feb. 17th, 2009 01:27 am (UTC)

You've got it!

1. Crossover of doom! What characters from up to 3 different manga series would you like to see in a storyline together?

2. If you were a cookie, what sort would you be?

3. Next Saturday night, a top chef will make whatever you want for a dinner for you and three friends of your choice! What's the menu?

4. In the past five years, what's the best movie you've seen?

5. What is your favorite Shakespeare play, and how many times have you seen it performed (movie or television count, as long as you watched the whole thing)?

Feb. 17th, 2009 06:32 am (UTC)
1. Code:Breaker, Yankee-kun to Megane-chan, Firefly.

2. Oatmeal raisin.

3. Well, you never said what kind of chef, and that it had to be entrees, so... corn and shrimp chowder, sourdough bread, and some Chinese buns to round it out.

4. Amelie. Atonement.

5. Macbeth. Our teacher showed us two different movie versions in class, and I suppose that our class reading it aloud counts as a performance as well? My Eternal Rival and I were cast as Macduff and Macbeth, respectively, and we spent quite a lot of time going over the final battle together because we are dorks.
Feb. 18th, 2009 02:06 am (UTC)

Wow - the entire casts of all 3?

Yankee-kun to Megane-chan looks cute!

Feb. 18th, 2009 02:14 am (UTC)
Yankee-kun to Megane-chan ranks up there with [insert shoujo manga that meganbmoore has introduced me to here--it's closest to High School Debut, I think]. In the beginning, it re-uses the same gag over and over again (you know exactly how each chapter is going to end), but the viewpoint character, Daichi, is so completely oblivious--as only a shoujo hero can be--to his feelings that you tag along for the cracktastic ride. Also, seeing Hana save Daichi's sorry butt on a regular basis and have yakuza men shaking in their boots based on her reputation alone is a treat.

...mostly, I want to see Ogami and River interact. And Wash and Hana. And Jayne and Heike. *sparkles*

4. Someone's impressed by your phone manner on the job and leaves you 5000 euros in her will, with the stipulation that you travel abroad on it. Where do you go?

5. Pick one: new experience or old favorite.

Feb. 16th, 2009 07:55 am (UTC)
Yay for ssushi! I could probably live on that for even longer than a week, there are so many different kinds and flavors it wouldn't get boring :)

And interview me?
Feb. 18th, 2009 12:21 pm (UTC)

3. What's your favorite scene from Saiyuki (including Reload) so far?
