Yeah, I bought this one precisely because even just a quick flip-through in the store made it clear this wasn't going to be the typical DMP paint-by-numbers cliched yaoi license, but I probably wouldn't have looked twice at it if I had only the cover and blurbs to go by, and I have a feeling there are going to be some pissy fangirls getting burned by that: apparently it just came out this week, and there's already a "I'm not disappointed, but someone just looking for yaoi might be..." review on Amazon.

Well, that's pretty much 5 stages/versions of Kambei there...

Oh yeah, and the guys in this book? Even more so. All but one of the older leads have long hair, all but two of 'em have neat little beards or goatees, and three of the five have glasses (and the two who don't are all in historical settings where specs would seem unusual.) The only one with short hair is the lead of the title story and the setting pretty much demands it -- he's a soldier-turned-pacifist-schoolteacher in a vaguely 20th-century-Europe country that appears to be Nazi Germany with the serial numbers very, very lightly filed off. And he seems to be the youngest of the lot, too -- old enough to be a married man and an officer, but his looks are generally more youthful, slender twenty-something biseinen than the rest of the slightly beefier, thirty/forty-something long-haired oyaji sorts she favors -- most of the older leads here look like hybrids of Kambei and Abel Nightroad from Trinity Blood, and Googling for some of her other titles shows leads that look like they're sort of a blend of Kambei and Johnny Rayflo from Vassalord.

It's a very, very good look, if you like that sort of thing. *koffs and looks shifty-eyed*
