Awww, thanks. And check your mail!

(Lunch tomorrow is also an option if you're free, I need to hit the station for a few things. And I have a b-day prezzie for you to hand off, too!)

I hope the day is being kind thus far ... .

I had two lunch invites today, counting yours, and couldn't do either because I ended up arriving late after last night's (truthfully, this morning's) late hours. (It figures - until you arrived in my world, I never had lunch invites ... .) The Young Lady arrived home bursting to rant about Other People's Lack of Planning and proceded to do so ... .

And ... now ya need to check your mail.

The day...was the day. About as I'd expected, although the various fics and greetings made for some much-appreciated bright spots throughout.

And funnily enough, I never made it out your way after all -- got sidetracked with a bunch of things including playing tech support for a friend. If you don't mind something a little later, probably 1 to 2-ish depending on how an appointment goes, I should be out there today...

OK, it's a date! It'll have to be quick, of course ... I'm looking forward to a more leisured visit this weekend!

And looks like I'll be back out tomorrow -- they were all booked up today but have pretty much all of Friday and Saturday open, if you don't have your heart set on getting the work done by the studio owner himself. I can vouch from experience that the man is super-nice and very kind to nervous newbies, but he's also a lot harder to book time with and charges more. I've never yet had work done by Hilda but everyone I've ever met there has always been friendly, so I'm sure you'll do fine with her.

(If you know how long it will take for you to deal with hair, get down to Dupont Circle, etc., I can always make an appointment for Saturday for you while I'm out there tomorrow...and maybe drop off another tiramisu loaf for office snacking?)

Have you seen any of Hilda's work? I'm torn between feeling very easy about this and trying to remind myself this is permanent! And they use the disposable setups? I found some reviews of the shop online and they were mostly very good, but their own site is down/gone.

I should probably just go ahead and do it.

Maybe 3:30 or 4:00pm? That would probably be more than generous enough in time - I can probably be down there by 2:00 - but we can hang out, talk, shop, whatever, and I'd rather not rush on Saturday.

Oh, goodness, yes, they are absolute sticklers about universal precautions, I've been to doctors who weren't half as careful about cross-contamination. I can vouch from experience that they live up to the standards here.

She doesn't have her own portfolio on the website yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have her work in the photo portfolios they keep at the front counters; I'll probably be talking to her tomorrow so I can let you know more then. And really, the shop's been around long enough and Fatty's got a high enough profile, I'd trust that he's pretty careful about who he's letting be associated with his shop's reputation. :)

4 sounds good, that allows plenty of time for a nice late brunch somewhere (ever been to Annie's?). But I'll call you when I get there and see if their open schedule has changed any from when I talked to the counter girl this afternoon.

(And don't feel bad, I wibbled for YEARS on my wrist piece before I finally buckled up the nerve to get it done!)

Nope, I haven't been to Annie's!

Sounds good, about the procedures. And the testimonials online were all saying that things healed up much faster with them than with other shops.

Well, I've been thinking about the general idea for more than a decade ... I think that's enough due consideration, don't you?

;-)

Annie's is a total gaybourhood institution down on Dupont South -- they had a 50th anniversary a couple years ago and are still going strong. The food is nothing unusual, it's pretty basic all-American steakhouse fare -- steak, chicken, some seafood dishes, basic brunch stuff...nothing remotely fancy-schmancy or trendy, but the simple stuff is all done very, very well, and it's a warm friendly neighborhood-haunt atmosphere. They're one of my favorite comfort restaurants downtown, but I hardly ever go there now unless I have visitors, because it was always a big social thing and it's no fun to go there alone.

And hee, yes, I think if you're still liking the idea after pondering it so long, it's hardly a whim! And you're certainly quite grown up enough to do what you like! ;)

Of all my work, the tattoo was Fatty himself, as I noted -- I'd been waffling at the time between a handful of local artists who were getting good reviews on BME and rec.arts.body-art, what finally swayed me was talking to a guy at Afterwords who had a GORGEOUS neo-traditional irezumi sleeve of koi and flowers. He had nothing but good things to say about the man, and the quality was right there to see in technicolor in front of me -- I made the appointment that week. And both my daiths and a tongue piercing that I let heal over inadvertently (nothing wrong with it, I just got sloppy and left the jewelry out too long...whoops!) were done there -- I think the tongue was by Jason and the daiths were some other really nice chap whose name is eluding me at the moment. Everybody was quite pleasant and very very careful about getting things just right, and I had zero healing problems with any of the work.

I'm about to run out now -- if you're not stuck in meetings, I've got another tiramisu loaf to drop off for you -- knowing how free food tends to go in an office setting, that might let you finish off most of it if folks at home won't be so into all the coffee flavor! (Actually, I'm planning on grabbing lunch so if you're free and willing to brave the noontime crowds, I'm good to meet up rather than just do a drive-by and fling bread in your general direction...will call when I'm in the area and check in.
