These songs are all about being a band on the road, and the relationship between audience and artist during the performance:

Bob Seger: Turn the Page

Jackson Browne: The Load Out / Stay

Boston: Rock and Roll band

Anybody have any others to add to the set?

Yeah, the Boston tune has a very different feel, but it still has the refrain about "Everybody's waiting, getting crazy, anticipating love, and music ... ."

'Band On The Run', Wings? A ridiculous song, but it's claimed a soft spot in my heart.

It is a fun song (I've seen them do it live, decades ago), but it doesn't have the connection I'm talking about, where the audience and the musicians feed off each others' energies: "Up there in the spotlight you're a million miles away, every ounce of energy, you have to give away: as the sweat pours out your body like the music that you play ... " — "Turn the Page"

.. I'm not sure but Nickelback's Rock n' Roll Star seems to me to lampoon the stereotypical expectations from the audience of what that life is like?

I'll have to check it out ... maybe more like Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" [and the chicks for free]?

Oh God, I love that vid. It has Richard Ayoade! Starrier than any rockstar!
