I probably first encountered it from Clam Chowder (see isiscolo's comment below), a local group that was loosely associated with the SCA and SF fandom in the DC area. I was happy to find that Stan had done a version!

Dunno if you're familiar with Clam Chowder, but they do a cover of this I love.

Am I familiar with the Clams? THE CLAMS?

They sang at my sister-in-law's wedding, in fact. And when Kathy Sobansky was pregnant, I attended a local SCA ceilidh at which she was present, and I sang her a Scots lullaby ("Can Ye Sew Cushions" - except I do the "what shall I do wi' you" section slowly, like the rest of it). That strikes me as one of the more audacious things I've done in my life!

Hee, I am totally unsurprised, given our common history. (Don Stallone was a close friend of mine, and actually we still keep in touch.) And I, too, heard it first from them.
