After Irene

Power is out.  Water seems fine.  I have a near-full gas tank in the car and a car charger for the phone, so I should be able to keep in touch.

Lots of trees came down in the neighborhood, taking power lines with them.

I'm glad it's nothing worse than power outages, as disconcerting as those are.

Yes, although the lack of AC will become a problem for me physically.

How hot is it there, after the storm? It's mid-70s here, but I'm far enough west that I'm in the mountains and the hurricane didn't reach here. We had high winds yesterday, but that was all.

It was in the 80s today. The temperature is dropping but air circulation is the issue - no power = no fans either.

SO MUCH RAIN, but the wind hasn't been bad. A lot of power outages but so far we're good. I finally said 'to hell with it' and just fired up hubby's computer to watch a movie. If the power goes out, it goes out.

Fine, surprisingly. Didn't lose power. Still had water. No trees came down. I was shocked.

I'm glad you're okay. We lost power for awhile and have been told to boil drinking water.

I'm sorry to hear about the water! It's hard to boil it w/o power ... .

Oh, our power is back now. We wouldn't have known about the order without it anyway. I'm letting the first batch of boiled water cool down.

Ah. I have been getting official info bulletins from the neighborhood listserve on the phone, so I did not consider that no phone = no info.

No smartphones here. just VOIP service, cordless phones that require electricity to run, and very basic cell phones, one of which was out of juice.

No, and I'm not holding my breath. PEPCO is notorious for how long they take, and there are lots of wires down in our area.
