Yummy!

Yesterday, the Young Lady made Vietnamese coffee-flavored granita, out of good-quality decaf drip coffee and sweetened condensed milk. She saved some of the milk to drizzle over the tops of the servings.

Absolutely delicious!

(YMMV ... if you don't like coffee, clearly this won't be your sort of thing.)

Well, she started with this recipe, but:

  • Instead of saving all the sweetened condensed milk to put on top, she put about half of it into the coffee mixture.
     
  • Instead of just scraping it into crystals at the end of the freezing period, she followed the technique we've used for granita before, and scraped up the ice crystals from the bottom and sides of the dish about every hour. This is easier (although more time-consuming) than trying to scrape the frozen mass into crystals at the end. The result has a fluffier texture, too.
