The Sabbath is the Queen of Holidays and takes precedence over almost everything else. To show how important Yom Kippur is, it's sometimes called the Sabbath of Sabbaths! Prayers for peace are a big part of Shabbat worship.

Also, the lighting of Shabbat candles marks a sacred time period that lasts until (if you go the whole nine yards) the lighting and extinguishing (in a cup of wine) of the Havdalah candle. If you're lighting Hanukkah candles at the start of Shabbat (Fri. night), you light them before you light the Shabbat candles. If you're lighting them at the end of Shabbat (Sat. night), you light them after Havdalah. We considered doing this Saturday night when my sister's family was over, but we weren't sure of the location of the Havdalah candle the Young Lady made ages ago in religious school.
